A Walk In The Park
It was another winning performance by The Felling Band at the recently revived Picnic In The Park contest at the weekend.

The open-air entertainment contest, previously held at the DLI museum and Houghall College, was making its first appearance in the lovely grounds of The Story in Durham.
And once again the band was victorious. Competing against a mixed field of 1st to 4th section bands the band was awarded Best 2nd section band and Best Band Overall.
Playing our programme of Olympic Fanfare & Theme, Second Star To The Right (trombone solo), The Cossack, Be Thou My Vision, and Balkan Dance, the adjudicator (Stephanie Binns) commented that 'our performance had it all with its playing, choreography and sheer enthusiasm from the first note to the last'.

That's now 3 wins a row for the band. We must be doing something right!!
Top Dogs

We've only gone and done it!!
We are delighted to announce that we have been crowned 2nd Section CHAMPIONS at the 2026 Regional Brass Band Championships in Durham.

The band played brilliantly, performing 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea by Phillip Harper, with the adjudicators praising our performance and commenting that we were clear winners.

Individual prizes were also awarded to Yvonne Malcolm (Best Sop), Daisy Fern (Best Euph), Sharon Smith (Best Baritone) and Eddie Smyth (Youngest Player) . Well done to them all.

Needless to say the band are over the moon with this fantastic, well deserved result. The win also means that we will be promoted to the 1st Section in 2027.

Massive thanks to our MD Steve Malcolm who led us on the day and put us through our paces on the journey to the Area contest. Also to Jason Smith, for his support as our resident MD and for stepping into a playing position on euphonium.

Now it's onwards & upwards and we are now looking forward to competing in the National Finals at York in September.

Bring it on!!

Winning Ways!!
The band finished the 2025 contesting year off in style with a fantastic First Prize at the recent Stanley Entertainment contest.
The adjudicators praised our programme and were particularly complimentary around the band's flawless intonation throughout.
We were also delighted for our percussionists Colin, Dave and Erin who won the Best Percussion Section prize - well done guys!!

That gives us an enviable record of finishing in the top 3 in every competition that we have entered this year.
What a great year! And what a team!!

Prize Guys.......Again

We are on a roll!!

For the third time in a row the Felling Band have featured in band competition prizes.

Beating some Championship and First section bands along the way, the band were delighted to be awarded 2nd prize in the Beamish Hymn & March Contest held recently at the iconic Beamish Museum in County Durham.
Well done to all the bands who took part and congratulations to the Bathgate Band on taking 1st place.
